Crochet Popcorn Stitch Hotpad

This was another pattern really quick and easy pattern I tested for Helen over at crochetncrafts.com.  The pattern can be found here.

This hotpad worked up in just a few hours.  I think this would be absolutely gorgeous in multi-colors.  I’m hoping to get some free time to do this in a couple of different color combinations.

This pattern is also a great stash buster as it only takes a few ounces of yarn.  I used some left over peaches-n-cream cotton in this sample.

Sleeveless Sweater Tunic – Free StitchMeKnot Crochet Tutorial

Crochet Sweater Front 225x300 Sleeveless Sweater Tunic Free StitchMeKnot Crochet Tutorial

Sleeveless Sweater Tunic

This is my very first crocheted garment.  I wanted the pattern to be as simple and uncomplicated as possible.  This is how I made this Sweater Tunic.

I took a basic sleeveless tunic pattern which I modified to my measurements. There were only two pieces, the front and back. I then crocheted a 4″ x 4″ test swatch of half double crochets with the yarn and crochet hook that I was going to use.  Then I calculated how many stitches I needed to crochet to create each of the pattern pieces. I sewed the two pieces together using the whip stitch technique.   Then I finished the sweater by doing a single crochet border around the neck, armholes and around the bottom.

I was very apprehensive about wearing this to work.  However, my misgivings were for naught as I got SO many compliments; one of which was “I thought you had bought it at the  store”.  I also had someone tell me that they may be interested in my crocheting them a vest.  We’ll see.

Wallet and Card Holder – Crochet

Wallet and Card Holder

Of course my new Starling Handbag required a new wallet and a credit card holder!  I didn’t use patterns for these.  For the card holder I used the same stitch pattern that Futuregirl used in her Starling Bag.  For the wallet, I just used a stitch pattern that I had been playing with at the time.  If I can figure out which stitch combination I used, as I tested a LOT of stitch combinations, I’ll write up a pattern for this.

I was very pleased with these results as well.  I particularly like the way the wallet turned out.

Starling Handbag – Crochet

Starling Handbag

I found Futuregirl’s Starling Handbag quite awhile ago and absolutely fell in love with it.

I will most definitely be making more of this bag, but I won’t use cotton next time as the cotton does stretch out of shape quite a bit, as you can see.

I did modify the handle a bit, as I wanted a few more rows of handle than the pattern calls for.

Another modification I made was to make a very long strap.  I wanted the strap to give the bag a bit more support along the bottom and sides, so sewed it so that the strap runs along the bottom and up both sides of the bag.  If I don’t want to use the strap, I just fold it down inside and along the bottom of the bag for even a bit more support.  Here’s a picture of the bag with the strap.

I have gotten a LOT of compliments on this bag.  Not only from co-workers, but when I’m out shopping.  I have had store teller’s ask me if I had made the bag and that this particular stitch pattern was perfect for this bag.

Max’s Teddy Bear – Chrochet Amigurumi

Max's Crochet Teddy Bear

Another co-worker became a grandfather for the first time.  I wanted to do something special for him.  The new grandbaby’s name is Max.  The cross-stitched piece on this bear’s tummy says “Max is my HERO!”

Because I wanted to make this bear as “baby proof” as possible, I crocheted the eyes and nose.  I also made the cross-stitched piece removable so that the bear, or the cross-stitched piece could be washed if need be.

The proud grandfather gave me such a big hug!!!  He told me that nobody at the office ever did anything so nice for him before.  He was very grateful.  His wife, too, called me to thank me for Max’s bear.

Yet another co-worker told me that this is the best creation I’ve made thus far.

The bear’s blanket is loom knit.  I originally bought this nice fluffy blue and white yarn to make the bear with.  Unfortunately, my eyesight just would not allow me to crochet with this very soft fluffy yarn.

Baby Set – Loom Knit

Jaime's Loom Knit Baby Shower Set

While I was working on another co-worker’s project, the place where I work hired a new employee who was several months pregnant. I really wanted to make her a teddy bear for the baby, or some other amigurumi as a gift, but I didn’t have time to do that before her scheduled baby shower.

I had bought this yarn with the intent of crocheting a baby’s teddy bear.  Unfortunately, I just could not crochet with this yarn.  I tried it on my knitting looms and found I was able to use it in this way.

Jaime was very pleased with this baby set.  She told me that she had never received a handmade gift before and she was very appreciative.

Once again, due to several moves in a very short time frame, I cannot locate the various patterns I used to put this Loom Knit Baby Set together.

Dishcloths – Crochet

Crochet Washcloths

I started crocheting dishcloths to experiment with various stitch combinations.  Unfortunately, after two years and three moves, I don’t remember which patterns I used to create these.  The lower left butterfly dishcloth was done through one of  the several yahoo groups CALs that I have joined.  I do not remember which one.  Here are larger images of these.

Here is another one of my cross stitch charts that I have digitized.

The PDF contains both a color chart as well as a symbol chart.

I worked this cross stitch design up on 14 count Aida cloth.  The grid size is 113 stitches wide by 103 stitches high.  If worked on 14 count cloth, the finished design is 5.07 inches by 4.21 inches, making the design 71 stitches by 59 stitches.
